Australian Pairs

Hilary and I have been playing in the Ryde Indoor Bowling Club Australian Pairs league during the winter and having conducted a straw poll of many TBBC members there seems to be interest in running this at Totland.

For those members who are not familiar with the rules or format, please see the following:

Australian Pairs can be an interesting variation on the game of Bowls

The main difference for Australian Pairs is that both team members will Lead and Skip alternately. The game is played with four bowls.

The play:

Australian Pairs is a fun game where both players get to deliver skip bowls.

It really keeps both players engaged in the game.

12 End Games

First End

Leads deliver two bowls each

The Leads then go to the head to direct the skips bowls

The skips go to the mat and deliver four bowls each

The skips then go to the head to direct the leads final two bowls

The Leads deliver their last two bowls.

Second End

Skips deliver two bowls each

The Skips then go to the head to direct the leads bowls

The Leads go to the mat and deliver four bowls each

The leads then go to the head to direct the Skips final two bowls

The Skips deliver their last two bowls

Keep rotating the order of play for the balance of the ends.

The proposal is to run a league of 8 - 10 weeks on a Sunday morning or late afternoon, to be decided. The format will be mixed pairs and gives an opportunity for couples to bowl together along with other mixed pairs of course.

It would be good if we could get 12 pairs to participate in order to fill 6 rinks.

I will be adding a notice in the clubhouse for any members to register their interest or please email me at pops.hastings@gmail.com

Finals Days

Club finals days were held on August 31st & September 1st

Despite small amounts of rain an excellent standard of bowls was on display.

Thanks to all the competitors, Ted for organisation Gill for the catering and all who came to support the players.

Presidents Day 2019

After a rather wet start to Sunday, a good part of the green was passed fit to play with mats down.

The game was played in 100 up style and with teams of 5,each bowling only one wood, a great deal of fun was had. The actual winners on the day were:  Margaret Renouf, Keith Brown, April Weller, Bill Churchyard, Jill Dent.

Afterwards, a super ploughmans lunch was served.

An excellent social event for the club.

TBBC at Freshwater Sports Centre

The 5th April 2018 saw the Totland Bay Bowling Club held an exhibition on bowling at the Sports Centre in Freshwater. The event supported by many of the Totland League Team bowlers and Associate Members was widely publicised throughout West Wight and is the first of a number of recruiting events to be organised by the Club.

Wearing the new 2018 design of club shirts one could not fail to be impressed by the members enthusiasm for their sport and their commitment to encourage new recruits of all ages and abilities to join TBBC. The day was enjoyed by all in attendance and the club was delighted at the amount of interest received on their stand.

A further opportunity is available very soon when the Club has 2 open days on Sunday 29th April and Sunday 6th May starting at 2pm. If you would like to get to know more and try your hand at bowling you can be assured of a warm welcome and a fun time. Refreshments will be served throughout the afternoon and the bar will also be open.

Everyone at Totland Bay Bowling Club is looking forward to seeing you.

Defibrillator

A defibrillator has been purchased for the club and will kept in the clubhouse during the closed season and will be put in the Green room during April - September for easy access.
